Internal Bra with a breast reduction?

Question

Do any doctors do an internal bra with a breast reduction. I've read some doctors use some sort of ADM synthetic material and some use a person's own tissue. Trying to get the best result from my reduction and lift.

best technique for breast reduction is The Bellesoma Method.  This technique will reshape your breast
tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on
the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage.  The weight of the breast is transferred to
the underlying pectoralis major muscle resulting in pain relief and long term
stability.  Vertical scars are avoided,
nipple sensation and the ability to breast feed are maintained.  This technique avoids using artificial

The notion of an internal bra to provide some support with a breast lift or reduction has been around for a while.  I am not at all convinced that it actually works and I don’t think it is worth the extra cost.  But surgeons will try it and extol it’s benefits as a sales technique.

YES, our modification of breast reduction wraps your own collagen around the bottom and sides of each breast to support and to shape the breast so it is round and maintains projection.  We do not add any off the shelf mesh or other products, and believe your own excess breast tissue (which some reduction techniques discard) works best, and is most natural.

will be the most important aspect in terms of longevity and avoidance of bottoming out.  Internal bras can be used but invariably, all sutures do stretch out and lose their benefit with time and there are no good long term studies to compare techniques using an internal bra versus no internal bra.  Any procedure that involves moving your tissue into the upper pole will help achieve better lng term outcomes.

The purported value of these types of products and devices, which range from silicone products to acellular dermal matrices to absorbable and permanent meshes, is that the lower pole of breast tissue will be supported by internal scaffolding that keeps the tissue from settling. I think these products have their roles but are not required in the average breast reduction. There are some maneuvers that can be performed to provide support to the native breast tissue using your own deepithelialized skin (skin that has had the outer layer removed), and surgeons should also be judicious in selecting which incision approach makes sense based on how much excess loose skin needs to be removed to reposition the breast properly.

An area of recent development is the use of an Internal Bra during Breast Reductions, and Breast Lifts. To accomplish this, we can use synthetic mesh which dissolves in one year's time, or Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM).  These alternatives provide long term support to keep the breasts high, tight, and perky, without the bottoming out that can be problematic especially in patients with poor tissue strength.  The link below has more information on this procedure.  Good Luck

Thank you for the good question.   Semantics can be confusing;  the "internal bra" may mean different things depending on who you speak with.  In our practice, I utilize a  "dermal shelf", which is simply a segment of the patient's own breast/skin tissue to help support the breasts  in a more superior position.   In cases where breast implants are involved, I utilize capsulorraphy techniques along with acellular dermal matrix or biosynthetic mesh.My best advice: select your plastic surgeon carefully. Make sure that he/she has significant experience achieving the types of outcomes you will be pleased with. Then, communicate your goals carefully, as well. Working together you will come up with a good plan to achieve your goals.   Best wishes.
