Would I be a good candidate for J-Plasma? (Photo)

Question

I'm a 38 year old female suffering from loose skin on the lower abd, no significant medical history. A plastic surgeon recently told me I would be a good candidate for a mini tuck; however, I do not want the scar. I've never been pregnant, just lost a bunch of weight. Would J-Plasma offer any significant improvement on my lower abd or would it still look like I had a baby? Any recommendations other than a tuck? I've already tried Thermage. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi, Renuvion technology is radiofrequency + helium gas that produces a plasma that delivers high heat to the dermis causing it to shrink and tighten. You sound like a great candidate for it. It doesn’t remove any skin as a tummytuck would, but the trade off is that it will tighten it quite well with only 2 or 3 tiny incisions. Plastic surgery continues to evolve as technology continues to improve and this leads to increasing effectiveness and overall treatment options for patients.  One new frontier in plastic surgery is skin tightening, while this is not new, there are some significant advancements that have been made that have led to improved treatments for patients.  One of these innovations is a device called Renuvion, it was also called J-Plasma before it was redesigned specifically for aesthetic treatments.

Renuvion (J-Plasma) is a radiofrequency energy device that also combines helium to induce skin tightening.  The device includes a cannula that is placed under the skin (similar to a liposuction cannula) which allows higher amounts of energy as it avoids the concern for trauma to the superficial skin.  The second unique feature of the Renuvion is the addition of the helium, the combination allows for the radiofrequency energy to heat the skin quickly and almost instantaneously be cooled to increase the safety of the device.  It also allows for a more efficient treatment, which is important when combining the treatment with other larger body contouring surgeries such as a Brazilian Butt Lift.

In my practice Renuvion (J-Plasma) is most commonly used in combination with liposculpting procedures such as a Brazilian Butt Lift.  It can also be used in the neck in combination with liposuction for patients that want to improve their appearance, but are not ready for a necklift yet.  Liposuction is an incredible way to enhance the shape of the body or neck, however a patient’s results are dependent on the skin to contract.  In patient with loose skin or stretch marks there will likely be a limit to the skin contracture after liposuction, thus limiting the overall results of the procedure.  However, if we can remove the fat and tighten the skin simultaneously we have opened up the procedure to patients that were not previously a candidate for liposuction.

It is important to know that Renuvion (J-Plasma) is not a replacement for a tummy tuck, neck lift or other surgical procedure that removes excess skin.  However, it is a great option for patients who are not ready or don’t need these larger procedures, but have some loose skin that will not be treated with liposuction.

Thank you for sharing. It would be best to assess you with multiples pictures angles to really be able to gauge the level of skin laxity you have. Based on the fact that you have not had any pregnancies yet, you might be a good candidate for the J plasma alone. The J plasma will give you a good degree of skin tightening through two tiny incisions, however J plasma alone will not give you 100% results like a tummy tuck would. If you are considering children in the future and do not want to have such extensive surgeries before that, J plasma will give you good results, and then after all of your pregnancies you might consider a tummy tuck . It would be best to see an in person plastic surgeon to assess your needs and level of skin laxity to better understand which procedure would be most beneficial for you.

you need a tummy tuck and lipo for the best results.  renuvion can help with tightening but its not nearly what skin removal can do when its needed.You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best.  Traditional liposuction awake and smart liposuction are old methods and do very poorly for tightening skin or significant skin tightening or contouring.  Small problem areas can be improved slightly by these methods.  The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heat the skin with radio-frequency devices such as J PLASMA/RENUVION, InMode BodyTite, ThermiRF to heat the under surface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. These combinations are called 4D HIDEF VASER contouring and can only be done by a well . trained body contouring specialist. At the same time fat should be harvested, PRP and stem cells added and injected into muscles or indentations/cellulite to get body shaping and contouring.  This is known as a Brazilian butt lift when you inject the fat to the buttock for contouring and lifting, but fat can also be used in areas such as the chest/breast, arms/shoulders, calves and face.  Cellulite should also be treated with cellfina, sculptra, subcision and/or fillers such as bellafill, renuva synthetic fat, or sculptra.  If skin is very loose before surgery then it will need to be removed such as lower abdominal skin (tummy tuck/abdominoplasty), breast skin (breast lift), arm skin (brachioplasty).  Overall you need a full assessment, but simple liposuction alone will not tighten skin and needs a combination of various methods -- fat removal, skin tightening, defining, fat grafting, skin removal -- to get the best in body contouring and body sculpting.  Dr. Emer.

Thanks for your question. A side profile photo would be helpful, but it does look like you would be a reasonable candidate for J-Plasma/Renuvion treatment. It doesn't get the "home run" results that a true tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) would, but can generate very satisfying results with only a fraction of the scars, risks, and downtime. Best wishes

Thanks for your question.  J-plasma or Renuvion, as its known now, offers tightening that has not been possible without a tummy tuck.  However, there are some cases that would benefit from a traditional abdominoplasty.  Seek out a surgeon that does both and get an in person evaluation to see what is right for you.

Thank you for your question and posting your pictures. I have found Renuvion to be the best tissue tightening device available. While a tummy tuck is the gold standard, many patients are opting for Renuvion because they simply cannot afford the cost and downtime of a tummy tuck.
