When J plasma /Renuvion is used to tighten skin during lipo, is it applied on the skin or subdermally?

Brazilian Butt Lift surgeries continue to be one of the most popular procedures in America. This popularity comes from the total body transformation that can be achieved from liposculpting and fat transfer.  Fat is removed from the areas where we don’t want it and placed in areas such as the butt and hips that will improve an individual’s overall figure. 
One of the big limitations of a Brazilian Butt Lift or any liposculpting procedure is the need for the skin to contract after the fat has been removed.  Liposuction is a great way to remove excess fat (or harvest it for transfer), but liposuction alone does not enhance the skin’s ability to contract.  This can be frustrating for patients that are not ready for a tummy tuck, but want a more “snatched” or tightened appearance to their figure.  Loose skin and stretch marks prior to surgery are often predictors that there will be a limit to the amount of skin contraction after liposuction.

One of the new advancements in plastic surgery is the use of radiofrequency energy.  Renuvion is a device that combines radiofrequency energy and helium to cause skin contracture.  The use of the helium allows the treatment to be done efficiently which is important in procedures like a Brazilian Butt lift.

Renuvion (J-Plasma) is often combined with a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) when patients want as much skin contracture as possible after their procedure.  This will help them have the best figure possible as their waist, back and abdomen will have an enhanced ability to shrink after the procedure.  Renuvion has a cannula similar to a liposuction cannula that is passed under the skin to induce the skin contracture.  Thus, in a Brazilian Butt Lift, the areas will be liposuctioned as they would be typically in the procedure.  Once the liposuction is completed for the area then the Renuvion (J-Plasma) cannula is placed under the skin and the area is treated.  This can be done for one area or all of the areas liposuctioned during the Brazilian Butt Lift.

It is important to know that Renuvion (J-Plasma) will help enhance your results after liposuction or a Brazilian Butt Lift.  However, it is not a replacement for a tummy tuck or other skin removal surgeries.  It typically works best for patients that need a little boost to tighten their skin so that they can achieve the results they desire after a Brazilian Butt Lift.  In the correct patient Renuvion (J-Plasma) is an incredible addition to your Brazilian Butt Lift and can significantly improve your results.

Thank you for your question. When Renuvion/J Plasma system is used for skin tightening, it is applied underneath the skin (subdermally). When used for skin rejuvenation, it is applied on the skin surface. In the hands of a meticulous and experienced Plastic/Cosmetic surgeon, likelihood of hyperpigmentation is nominal. But we are still very cautious in our Asian and Fitzpatric 4 patients. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. Renuvion is a terrific device for tissue and skin tightening when used with liposuction. We combine the Renuvion with Tickle Lipo and have found that the Renuvion treatment can increase our aspiration of fat by 30 to 75%. Renuvion is performed sub-dermally (beneath the skin) so skin type is not a concern. When used on the surface of the skin, this would be a contra-indication for darker ethnic skin.I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.
