Hi, I'm a 27yo female and I have done a lot of research about possibly having a breast reduction. My underbust is 29" and my bust is 38.5", however, my breasts don't "appear" large to most people. Most of the before/after pictures I see are of pendulous breasts, but mine usually look like the "after" pictures, more bottom heavy and not extremely saggy. Does breast shape and not appearing "huge" play into my candidacy for a reduction?

Answer: Lift or reduction Breast shape usually requires a breast lift and reduction means decrease in volume. The photograph you have provided does not show a need for either a breast lift or reduction. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Considering reduction A candidate considering reduction must have adequate tissue remaining to reshape the breast after the desired amount of tissue is removed. You want to keep in mind the risks versus benefits of the procedure to make sure it is right for you. Based on your photo a breast reduction for you doesn't appear needed. If you proceeded it would need to be paid out of pocket as your breasts do not appear large enough where the procedure would be covered by insurance.
