Hi, I'm a 27yo female and I have done a lot of research about possibly having a breast reduction. My underbust is 29" and my bust is 38.5", however, my breasts don't "appear" large to most people. Most of the before/after pictures I see are of pendulous breasts, but mine usually look like the "after" pictures, more bottom heavy and not extremely saggy. Does breast shape and not appearing "huge" play into my candidacy for a reduction?
Answer: Breast reduction Dear bxs, Breast reduction is best suited for women who wish to decrease the size of their breasts. While there are different techniques used to perform this surgery, I prefer the vertical incision (lollipop pattern) breast reduction technique instead of the anchor scar pattern, which reduces more noticeable scarring than usual. I also use a SAFE liposuction technique to reduce additional fat around the stubborn axilla area and bra line. This way, my patients are achieving beautiful results with minimal incisions which reduces downtime and delivers an overall better breast shape long term.If you are considering breast reduction surgery, you should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and make sure your surgeon understands your goals. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Shape Hello, Thank you for your question. Shape is not really a factor. It is possible to reduce breasts of all shapes and sizes. The smaller the breasts, the more difficult it is to get insurance to cover the procedure. I wish you all the best. Mark G. Albert, M.D., F.A.C.S.New York, NY and Boston, MA

Answer: Lift or reduction Breast shape usually requires a breast lift and reduction means decrease in volume. The photograph you have provided does not show a need for either a breast lift or reduction. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Considering reduction A candidate considering reduction must have adequate tissue remaining to reshape the breast after the desired amount of tissue is removed. You want to keep in mind the risks versus benefits of the procedure to make sure it is right for you. Based on your photo a breast reduction for you doesn't appear needed. If you proceeded it would need to be paid out of pocket as your breasts do not appear large enough where the procedure would be covered by insurance. Visit with a board certified plastic surgeon near you to learn more.
