I am experiencing an itchy rash on both sides of my neck which started within days of using Differin Gel 0,1% Adapalene. (I only use it on my face and jawline, not on my neck.) Might I be able to change my routine to alcohol-and-oil-free moisturizer and face wash and the rash will go away or is it more likely that I am allergic? My face handles the Differin gel very well, without a rash. I have not been applying sun screen to my neck and ears since I don't apply Differin Gel in these areas.

Retinoids are chemical exfoliants. When used with mechanical exfoliation, the skin can be sensitized. I would use Elevase Moisture Booster to help hydrate your skin.

Retinoids and Retin A can cause exfoliation, dryness, and skin sensitivity; especially when using other exfoliants such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid. If you are using retinoids around the face, you may want to use a ceramide moisturizer such as Elevase Moisture Booster to help strengthen...
Retin-A is best used all over the face to reduce signs of aging and sun damage. You can then spot-treat the darker spots with a bleaching agent or light/laser therapy to help blend those areas to the rest of your skin. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD
