Normal for tummy to pooch out a little bit after tummy tuck? (photos)

Question

I’m 6 months post op. Pics are in the morning. When I suck in a bit I’m completely flat, when I relax completely my stomach is a bit rounded. I can feel the line down my diastasis (I’m assuming dissolving stitches or scar tissues etc). Do women sometimes experience this? Does a little sticking out when relaxed mean my muscle repair failed?

Hi, 
thank you for your question. I understand you might have some concerns post surgery, but it is normal for the repaired abdomen to show a small amount of 'pooch' as you describe it or distention. This can be attributed to things as muscle tone, the position of the lumbar curve and also the volume of food we digested. It is not an indication that your surgery has not gone well.

Thank you very much for your question, in the front photo your surgery looks very good, however in the side photo I observed changes that are more suggestive to body posture and not to surgery, I suggest a physical examination where your doctor can palpate if the dystasis of your rectus abdominis muscles is completely corrected. It helps a lot to start exercising to tone the abdominal wall, but above all to correct body posture. Greetings from Colombia

Hi there.  It is very common to have intermittent swelling after a tummy tuck. It normal for your swelling to be worse in the afternoon and better in the morning after rest or use of compression.  For further concerns I would follow up with your plastic surgeon to ensure everything is healing as expected.  Best of luck!

Your results are typical of a tummy tuck. The technique I use allows placement of mesh reinforcement that creates a more hourglass figure by compressing the abdominal wall resulting in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight.

From your photos it appears you had nice results from your tummy tuck.  Your last photo could indicate a difference caused from swelling after activity or perhaps even the way you are standing.  I encourage you to return to your surgeon for an in person evaluation.
