Is my nipple dying?

Question

I'm 5 days post surgery and my surgeon said that it's ok if the nipple is a darker color but I'm still concerned because the left one looks totally normal and the right one doesn't harden and is purple. Is it dying or just bruised?

Thank you for your picture and questions. Unfortunately, this type of question can only be answered after a physical exam and evaluation in-person. In the picture, I do not see anything overly concerning, but this is no guarantee there is not an issue. If you have a nipple that is darkened you should have it examined by your surgeon.  It certainly could be a simple bruise, but the change in color warrants further evaluation.

Unfortunately we cannot make a diagnosis of this type based on a photo. It takes an exam. It sounds like you have been seen by your surgeon and the doctor did not say the tissue was dying. If you do not trust that opinion you should be examined elsewhere.
