Is the wrinkling or orange peel look around my navel normal?

Question

it has been two weeks since my smart lipo procedure and the skin around my navel is looking a little wrinkly and also looks like an orange peel. I called my PS and was told that it is part of the healing process. When I called I couldn't exactly explain how it looked but they knew exactly what I was talking about, and that'd where I got the example of an orange peel

The skin changes you describe can be caused by fluid trapped in the area. It is a good idea to go for professional massages frequently to help eliminate this fluid to avoid any long term skin changes.

Thank you for your question.It can take 6 weeks to 6 months to see best result. I would recommend doing some vaser shape or vela shape, which is an ulta sound treatment to help tighten and tone the skin. The more you do for your body the best result you'll get. I hope this helps!

It is not uncommon to have some wrinkling of the skin early after smart liposuction as the swelling resolves. The benefit of the laser is that the skin will be stimulated to tighten over time. However, noninvasive treatments will help this process. I suggest discussing this with your surgeon, but I recommend massage and sometimes other noninvasive skin treatments such as vaser shape.

This is not a normal reaction after liposuction, it may be the physician was too aggressive around the belly button.  I suggest getting a heating procedure to improve the wrinkling and stimulate collagen.  Venus legacy, and Velashape for maintentence and thermage for one treatment would be beneficial. The orange peel appearance is due to swelling which thickens the skin and the stretching of the pores. This is not unusual following SmartLipo or any liposuction especially around the umbilicus because that is where the surgeon needs to be a bit more aggressive in removing the fat to get a flat result. The belly button has a stalk that is attached to the abdominal wall below. If fat is left behind encircling the stalk, it causes the 'bagel' or 'doughnut' bulge where the umbilicus is the hole of the 'bagel'. More laser and more suctioning in the area causes more swelling of that area relative to other parts that are treated so this is a reflection of that extra effort and will go away over time (a few weeks). However, in rare circumstances, a fluid collection may cause this appearance and needs to be addressed by your surgeon so please make sure that isn't the case.
