Mole removal on face - Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon? (Photo)

Question

Hi, I have a small mole on the top of my nose next to my right eyebrow. Not sure if I should have it removed by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon? I've found three different procedures: excision, shaving and scraping. What's the difference between shaving and scraping? Thank you for your time! Regards

Laser or shave dessiccation are both good options and can be performed by a dermatologist.  Excision is the next best but can leave bigger scarring and can be done by either plastic surgeon or dermatologist.  Best, Dr. Emer.

The mole on the top of your nose appears raised.  If that is the case, I would recommend having the mole shaved off.  I believe this would leave you with the least amount of a scar.  There are facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons and dermatologists who could potentially perform this procedure but you should make sure you see someone experienced with shaving moles.  I would not recommend scraping as a method of removal for your mole.

Dermatologists and plastic surgeons do this a lot. The difference in method of removal will depend on a physical examination to see how deep the mole is and how best the defect can be closed after removal. You will be trading the mole for a scar, but most of the time the scar heals extremely well. Just find someone in your area and see them in personBest of luck
