Do excessively tight compression garments make or break your shape after tt and lipo? Why do these doctors think they do?

Thanks for your question. I  have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op.  This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments.  It also helps improve  contour.  Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.However, if you garments are too tight they can restrict lymphatic drainage and blood flow leading to more swelling and complications. I'd highly suggest you contact your surgeon's office regarding your plan. Best of luck!

Post op surgical garments should provide gentle compression and not be excessively tight.  The garment should not interfere with your breathing.  I strongly recommend you have surgery with a board certified plastic surgeon and ask them about the garments they use.

To be perfectly honest I have never heard of a raja...one stage or two stage. I assume it is some kind of compression garment.  If it is so tight that you can't breath I think common sense tells you not to wear it.  I am a big believer in appropriately fitting compression garments after surgery.  I usually recommend some sort of compression for 4 weeks after a TT.  Ask your plastic surgeon for an alternative garment if the one you were given doesn't fit.
