Are dental crowns supposed to look and feel bulky? (Photo)

It is difficult to tell from looking at your picture whether the crown is too large.  It is possible that the dentist made this tooth larger to fit against the opposing tooth more ideally than your original molar.  Small changes can feel very different but after a short time become unnoticeable.  The inflammation could be related to your home care or there are other reasons that could be a factor.  I would recommend that you practice perfect hygiene and if the symptom does not resolve in two weeks then return to your dentist for a reevaluation.  

From the photo, the crown doesn't look too bad but if it is at all bigger than your original tooth, which may have been compromised because of wear,breakage,filling,etc, it will feel big to you. . The crown may be going a little deeper under your gums in order to extend beyond the filling for a good seal or to cover up a darker tooth. Compare it to the same tooth on the oposite side...does it look similar in size,shape,length?Talk to your dentist and express your concerns again as specifically as you can. If you don't get saisfaction, get a second opinion.
