Sculptra in buttocks? Will there be scarring?

Sculptra stimulates your skin to produce new collagen, thickening it and building volume. I’m not worried about 5 to 10 years later because Sculptra’s effects last about two years. I have been using it safely without problems for well over 10 years and have seen no long-term problems. Sculptra can create a mild to moderate volume in the buttocks and is not a good solution if a large look is desired.  However, if you just want to be a bit curvier, Sculptra is a great option.  Please find a board-certified dermatologist who’s an expert with Sculptra in the buttocks to help you get the look you want. 

Thank you for sharing your question.  Because Sculptra is injected into the buttocks the scars associated with treatment are very small to imperceptible.  Perhaps you are referring to a fat transfer to the buttocks which can leave slightly larger incisions?

As Sculptra is a polylactic acid it helps stimulate collagen production and results can last 5-7 years. Touch ups may be necessary because of natural aging. Thank you for your question. Sculptra injections into the buttocks should not result in scarring. Sculptra is a bio-stimulator that results in increased collagen production. The increased collagen production is very beneficial for reversing skin aging. New collagen production lasts from 5 to 7 years. However, with each passing year our bodies production of collagen is diminishing such that there is an ongoing loss of collagen. Hence, it may be necessary to have further injections once every 1 to 2 years. A vial of Sculptra, on average, will generate approximately 5 cc of volume. Thus, to get a substantial increase in buttock size can require a large number of vials. It is possible to develop small nodules with Sculptra, however, with the higher dilution used in the buttocks this is very unlikely. With time these usually resolve or can be injected with Kenalog to dissolve them. I have not seen them develop in a Sculptra buttocks augmentation thus far. It usually takes a series of 3 sets of injections to obtain good results with Sculptra in the buttocks. These are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.When possible fat transfer to the buttocks is usually more economical. In addition, you get sculpting of the flanks above the buttocks and sometimes around the buttocks to enhance the results.I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.

Hi  AnaisPop,Sculptra should stimulate collagen formation - for this alone, it won't cause skin aging but rejuvenation. This treatment lasts for about two years and can be maintained easily. The scars are negligible. It's not like Cellfina at all.Sculptra can potentially cause nodules and these can be dissolved with injected steroids.All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
