Hello, there is no standard treatment protocol for seromas; they are treated on a case-by-case basis.  Occasionally I will drain larger or recurrent seromas more than once a week, but others I will drain less frequently.  If you don't feel you are making progress you could discuss this with your surgeon.

It sounds like you are having the right treatment. Seromas are difficult to deal with and depending on the quantity drained if it is very high then a drain placement may be indicated but that is not without risk and does not guarantee resolution.  There are also sclerosing methods that also have pros and cons.  Discus these with your PS.  Sometimes your weekly visit will be the best and you just stop draining it and it may resorb or turn into scar tissue.  If very obvious having surgery to excise it is also an option.  There is no emergency so take your time and discuss with your PS. 

There are options like leaving in a new drain so that you make less frequent trips.  You can also speak to your surgeon about sclerosing methods to close down the seroma cavity.

Thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing post operative difficulties. This may continue to be treated with percutaneous drainage with needle and syringe. Having said that you may, at some point, require surgical drainage and placement of a drain tube. If left untreated the fluid cavity may become a lined pocket, infected, or both. I recommend continued close follow up with your plastic surgeon and an honest discussion about your concerns. I hope this helps. Good luck.
