Do I need Interproximal Reduction (IPR)?

While more studies are needed to determine whether or not it is necessary, the IPR technique is a complementary and safe technique (when performed correctly) to gain space and align teeth without causing teeth protrusion. IPR consists of grinding between the interproximal surfaces of the teeth to reduce their mesiodistal size (or decrease their tooth width). The amount that is usually reduced varies according to the thickness of the enamel and according to the degree of crowding, but in no case we will exceed the amount of 0.5mm thick.
