Here’s what likely happened:
When you stopped and restarted minoxidil inconsistently, your follicles experienced a temporary shock phase, known as telogen effluvium.
Minoxidil speeds up the hair cycle — meaning some hairs are pushed into a new growth phase, while older ones shed prematurely.
This can cause noticeable shedding for 4–8 weeks, especially if your scalp was also irritated by mild folliculitis.

The good news is, this type of shedding does not mean graft loss. The transplanted hairs are permanent and anchored by now (after 7+ months).
Once you stay consistent with minoxidil (daily for at least 3–6 months), your scalp will stabilize and regrowth will follow.

To support recovery:

Avoid overusing topical products that clog follicles.

Treat any active folliculitis gently with a mild antiseptic shampoo.

Maintain hydration, sleep, and nutrition — shedding can worsen with stress or low ferritin levels.

The shedding phase normally last up to 2 months with Minoxidil use. However, people might not notice the difference up until 4 months because new hair will not start growing until 4 months after starting on Minoxidil. Taking Finasteride pill may help as well with hair growth.
