I am interested in getting a septoplasty that will most likely be covered by insurance and was wondering what the additional cost would be to shave down the bump on my nose
Answer: Would a septoplasty and a rhinoplasty for bone shave have any additional costs? A septoplasty is performed in the back of the nose for medical necessity to improve airflow. That is it. A Septoplasty is billed to the patient's medical insurance once preauthorization has occurred. You will also be required to pay all co-pays and deductible associated with your insurance for the functional component. A rhinoplasty is considered cosmetic and must be paid for by the patient themselves. Once the dorsal hump has been removed, osteotomies are often required in addition to spreader graft placement. In many instances, the nasal tip cartilages are also adjusted to match the new dorsal profile once the hump has been removed. A full set of pictures are going to be required to make a determination about how best to proceed. Digital computer imaging would also be helpful.
