What can I do for bruising after Ulthera?

Question

I am 2 1/2 weeks out from my Ulthera- lower face-I have bruising along my cheekbones and by my ears to under my neck. I just looked at the bruises and they look absolutely no better than they did on Day 3. I’m no longer sore to the touch- I was very sore first week or so . Is it possible that these bruises don’t go away? Normally bruises change color etc. these are faint bruises that I can cover up with makeup but are very visibile without. I’m getting concerned with no sign of improvement.

Hi there,Minor bruising after an Ultherapy treatment may happen, and should resolve within the next couple of weeks. Your healing response time may be slower if you are on any blood thinning medications. There are ways to speed up the healing process, such as using Arnica. Arnica is a natural herb which helps to promote healing of bruises. You can find Arnica at your local drug store in a gel, cream, or oral form. I suggest following up with your provider to determine which remedy is the best for you.

This is difficult to answer without pictures, but this isn't typical after ultherapy. I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. Keep in mind, a combination approach would give the most improvement with Ultherapy. I recommend Ultherapy with RF treatments, lasers, microneedling/PRP or sculptra to get increased collagen, tightening and improve skin tone.  I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

You may see some bruising after Ultherapy but this should gradually resolve over a 2-week period.  If you are taking medications or oral supplements that thin the blood, the bruising may be prolonged.  Bruising will eventually fade.  I would recommend following-up with your provider.

Not normal reaction and I do suggest a follow up. Ultherapy is very powerful and hence why it works well in select individuals. Yes, the powerful ultrasound can cause bruising in some patients, but at week 2.5 this is highly unusual not to resolve.
