Rhinoplasty 5 weeks post-op: Am I healing okay? Should I be concerned? What should I do? (photos)

Question

I am currently 5 weeks post op. The swelling of my nose has gone down a lot; however, since my surgeon did lots of tip he said it will take a long time to heal. So my tip looks crooked. I was told that it looks crooked due to uneven swelling. Another thing that concerns me is that from the side profiles, you can easily see the inside of my nose. Will my nostrils cover or will the tip "sink in". Sorry I'm having a hard time explaining.

Hi and thanks for the question and photos. It’s still relatively early after your surgery, so the nose may still change a bit. With my patients, I often utilize conservative steroid injections and nighttime taping to help reduce the swelling. Massaging the tip and nostrils can help too. Touch base with your surgeon re: all of these interventions. If you are still displeased with your tip and nostrils in 6-9 months, address your specific concerns with your surgeon and consider seeking consultations with revision rhinoplasty specialists in the area, to determine the best course of action. There are a couple of ways to lower the nostril rims in-office, without major surgery. Computer imaging can help elucidate your aesthetic goals. Kind regards,Dr. Mehta

You need to have patience with your body as it begins to heal. The skin, bone and cartilage are all traumatized during surgery. Inflammation (swelling) is the normal response and will help your nose to heal and look beautiful in the end. Right now, concentrate on other things you like to do and let your nose and under eyes take the time to heal. It can take up a year for your final results. I hope this helps.

You have to give yourself some more healing time.  Your nose and surrounding areas are going to be swollen for a while and you should be consulting the surgeon that performed the procedure. However, give yourself some time before going back in so some of it can subside. It can take up to a year for final results.
