Urine infection before rhinoplasty?

What's the risk to the outcome of rhinoplasty when there's a recent or ongoing infection else where in the body? It's likely not to none. However it's just common sense to treat an infection before your surgery. There's likely a very small risk of seeding bacteria to the operative site, especially if there's cartilage grafts being used.When it's an upper respiratory tract infection, the risk is increased because the breathing tube may aggravate it or even promote it developing into a chest infection or pneumonia. Here it's advisable to be over your symptoms completely or reschedule your surgery for later. 

Thank you for your question.  It is always preferable to treat an infection prior to surgery when possible.  The good news is that urinary tract infections (UTIs) are readily and quickly treatable in most cases.  You have plenty of time before your surgery to have this cleared and safely move forward.  Discuss this with your surgeon.  I'm sure he will want you to compete your antibiotics and then repeat the urinalysis.  All the best!

No surgery on the human body should be conducted with an active infection at the same time. You are very lucky in that your rhinoplasty is some time away. A simple short course of Bactrim DS should do the trick. Repeat urine analysis prior to your intended Rhinoplasty should be done just to be sure all is clear. All the best. B. Weintraub MD

Close follow up with your primary care physician to treat your urinary tract infection with antibiotics should not have any affect on your rhinoplasty procedure.

As long as your urinary tract infection is treated promptly, it should have no effect on the outcome of your rhinoplasty. Please make sure that your plastic surgeon is aware of what is happening. Good luck.

Usually treating the infection is key and as long as yoru symptoms have improved it is probably OK. Best to always check with your surgeon.
