Will Redness Surrounding Scar from Mole Removal Dissipate? When? (photo)

It is not unusual to have some degree of redness in the initial phases of wound healing, especially after having sutures removed. Although your incision does look somewhat inflamed, please remember that it takes a full year for the process of collagen remodeling to stabilize.  Patients often ask if there is any form of lotion, cream, or magic potion that will make the scar heal faster.  The answer is that there isn't.  What is important is that you avoid excessive sun exposure, use sunblock, and avoid smoking.  A tincture of time and a whole lot of patience will be the only antidote.

I would recommend that you see your physician for a post-op visit for a proper evaluation.  Sometimes patients can develop sensitivity to the antibiotic ointment or vaseline over a period of time.

Your incision looks a little more red and inflammed than I would like at this point. It could be developing a reaction. What did you use on it. Bacitracin and other antibiotic ointments can lead to a reaction like this. I would consider using a combination of topical antiobitics and also some steroid creams as an option. I would have him follow up on it. When I get this situation with patients I request them to send me pictures everyday to make sure that it is healing well.
