I am having a BBL with fat transferred to my hips as well. Is there a recommendation for compression garment that will protect the fat in my hips as well as buttocks?
Answer: Appropriate compression garment for fat transfer to hips? The compression garment will vary with the surgeon, but I use an abdominal compression garment that does not compress the hips or buttocks.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Liposuction and Lipoinjection: Information Dear Socalcutie, Thank you for your questions. Each Plastic Surgeon has there own postoperative protocol and I suggest you ask your chosen Plastic Surgeon their preferences. In general, patients undergoing liposuction and lipoinjection there are custom fitted first stage compression garments (usually measured and ordered by the Plastic Surgeons office)that are worn for the first six weeks. After the majority of the swelling has dissipated I will have my patients move to a less compressive and more form fitting compression garment (Spanks like) usually worn for additional 6 weeks. I trust your Plastic Surgeon is Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who are ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership as having met additional criteria and a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery). My best wishes on a safe and successful surgical experience. Dr. R. A. Hardesty, MD, FACSDiplomate and Certified by the Am. Answer: Compression Garment Most surgeons have their own preference in post-operative garments. There are many good brands for your particular needs. What is important is that the garment you wear covers all areas treated (both liposuction and fat transfer areas) and slightly beyond those areas. Another very important issue is that the garment fits smoothly throughout all areas treated with no folding or wrinkling. Wrinkles and folds can leave permanent contour irregularities. I would normally have the patient wear that first stage garment for about 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks, then they can switch to a second stage type of garment.

Answer: BBL Hello and thank you for your excellent question. In general, we suggest just a regular compression garment that extends from the knees to waist. Based on your desires, I would suggest that you look into either a BBL, buttock augmentation with implants, or perhaps use of Sculptra to augment your buttocks. Of course, you will need an in-person consultation to evaluate you for this procedure. Preoperative visualization and surgical simulation with the Crisalix system may help with your decision. Any treatment plan should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation in person with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!
