Hair looks thinner after second hair transplant. Is this normal?

I had a hair transplant 2 years ago and a second transplant for density and crown area about 6 months ago. I read that the second one will show results slower, but right now my original transplanted area looks thinner than before the second procedure. Is this normal? Can i expect the denisty to come in at one year mark? I expected improvement from the second procedure but it is just concerning at the moment.

It’s understandable to feel concerned when you notice thinning in your original transplanted area after your second procedure. This can happen due to a process called "shock loss," where the trauma from the second surgery temporarily causes shedding of both transplanted and native hairs. This thinning is usually temporary, and most patients experience regrowth within a few months as the follicles recover. The new transplanted grafts from the second procedure will typically start showing visible results around the 6 to 12-month mark, with full density becoming apparent closer to the one-year point.
At this stage, it’s normal to feel a bit impatient, but I encourage you to give the hair more time to grow. The second transplant is often slower to show results because your scalp has undergone multiple procedures, which can extend the recovery and regrowth period.
