Fluorouracil, 5-FU Injections to Treat Post-Surgical Scar Tissue Accumulation? (photos)

Question

I’ve had negative experiences with Botox and cortisone injections to manage hypertrophy and focal chronic inflammation of major and minor salivary glands. Anything that shrinks gland tissue seems to do so by impairing/inhibiting functionality, which is unwanted. And injecting soft tissue is hard to control, as it travels 3-dimensionally. Does 5-FU work differently? Is it effective to remove post-surgical scar tissue (from minor gland excisions in oral cavity)? Side effects?

Injecting 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) directly into facial scars is a treatment option that targets the deeper layers of the skin to inhibit collagen production and promote scar remodeling. This method is often used for hypertrophic scars, keloids, and other types of facial scars that have not responded well to other  These types of scars result from an overproduction of collagen during the healing process and can be challenging to treat with topical medications.   5-FU interferes with DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells, including fibroblasts, which are responsible for collagen production. By slowing down collagen production, 5-FU helps to reduce the size and thickness of scars.
Side Effects: While injecting 5-FU for facial scars is generally safe, there are potential side effects to consider:
 Some individuals may experience mild pain or discomfort at the injection site during and after the procedure.
 Temporary redness and swelling at the injection site are common side effects and usually subside within a few days.
 Bruising may occur at the injection site, particularly if multiple injections are administered in the same area.Some individuals may experience itching or irritation at the injection site, which is usually .
Changes in skin pigmentation may occur, leading to lightening (hypopigmentation) or darkening (hyperpigmentation) of the skin at the injection site. These changes are usually temporary but may persist in some cases.While rare, there is a risk of infection at the injection site. It's essential to follow proper sterile technique and monitor for signs of infection after the proceduure. 
Individuals with a history of allergic reactions or sensitivity to 5-FU should avoid this treatment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid 5-FU injections due to potential risks to the fetus or infant.
