I had my first laser hair removal treatment 2 days ago without much of a consultation. I was not informed that I should have shaved first, and therefore had a few days hair growth which was not removed, nor was I asked about medications I'm taking (I'm on amitriptyline) or anything else that might be a contraindication. I woke up today with 6-7 pustules over hair follicles which broke open easily and now have redness and irritation in those spots. Is this normal? Should I stop treatment?

The Q-switched Yag laser has been found to be very safe on skin of color - especially if skin testing is done prior to facial use. The laser provides cooling of the skin both before and after the laser penetrates; allowing the laser energy to penetrate the pigmented hair follicle...
It sounds like you may have a burn. I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care. I recommend silicone gel with growth factors and hyperbaric oxygen to promote healing. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
