Am I having a reaction to laser hair removal? Could it be caused by photosensitizing medication? (Photos)

I had my first laser hair removal treatment 2 days ago without much of a consultation. I was not informed that I should have shaved first, and therefore had a few days hair growth which was not removed, nor was I asked about medications I'm taking (I'm on amitriptyline) or anything else that might be a contraindication. I woke up today with 6-7 pustules over hair follicles which broke open easily and now have redness and irritation in those spots. Is this normal? Should I stop treatment?

Your hair growth should be a lot thinner and less dense after 5 sessions. It looks like you are a good candidate for the treatment but you should follow up with your provider to see what device is being used and if the settings should increase.

It sounds like you may have a burn. I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care. I recommend silicone gel with growth factors and hyperbaric oxygen to promote healing. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
