I started Rogaine for chronic telogen effluvium. It's been 3 months and it seems to only be getting worse. Will Rogaine help?

This condition started over a year ago. Will Rogaine help to reverse this or will it make it worse? How long should I continue this treatment? Is there any advice?

It can take up to 6 months to see results. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options. Rogaine is helpful for many patients. In addition, it’s not uncommon to see an increase inshedding over the first few months of use. However, if the shedding is not slowing, I recommendscheduling a consultation with a hair loss specialist who can perform the appropriate test and diagnose any underlying causes for your hair loss. Treatments for hair loss include PRP, oral medications andlaser therapy.

I don't think minoxidil (Rogaine) will make your condition worse however there isn't any high quality evidence to suggest it will help either. Minoxidil is effective for genetic hair loss and from that we hope it may be effective with other types of hair loss but there's no guarantee. If it is going to work then it will likely take a little more time so stay patient. I would recommend you see a qualified hair restoration physician to ensure you have the right diagnosis and to explore other potential options.

Some people shed for the first 2-3 months after starting minoxidil so you must wait out the full 3 months to see if everything becomes stable
