Is it okay to wear a thong undergarment?

Question

The compression garment I was given by my doctor is large on me now. So I have tried on 4 different ones and they all are pretty tight on my butt and I am worried that might affect my results. Is a thong garment a safe option?

Thank you for your question. Some photos of the garment in place would help assess whether it's too tight or too loose. I think the most important thing you need to understand about the Garment is having pressure in the correct places Helps Prevent problems. Depending how early after the procedure!
I usually recommend wearing nothing or a spanx, like lower undergarment. Even a thong or other small underwear may leave an annoying groove when worn for hours over healing tissues, especially hip areas. I would be cautious for the first 3 months about wearing any garments with a narrow elastic band for more the a few hours on areas that are still swollen after your procedure.Christian Drehsen, M.D.

I typically ask patients to use adjustable garments with multiple bands so that tension can be adjusted and the areas of liposuction are less likely to get a fluid collection.  The key here is the size and the ability to tighten the garment, not the brand or make.  In my practice, the compression garments are provided as part of the BBL post op package.Email or phone your plastic surgeon to obtain post-operative care instructions regarding your compression garment and a replacement.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
