I was prescribed 2% ketoconazole to help with scaling. Can Ketoconazole make hair shedding worse?

I used it several times a few years ago just on areas of my scalp that had scaling and I shed more than my usual large amount of hair. Is shedding a common side effect of Keto? I was told to use it twice a week. Is anti-dandruff shampoo a better option? Thanks.

Ketoconazole is a common ingredient in anti-dandruff shampoos as well. Shedding is possible with anything so it's hard to say specifically in your case without knowing more. Removal of scales can sometimes remove hairs as well.

You need to meet with a Dermatologist to find out why you are shedding and get the proper treatment, not treating yourself
