Not satisfied with otoplasty after 6 months: my ears have weird folds.

Question

I had otoplasty 6 months ago, and now my ears have weird folding and it looks worse than before i had my otoplasty. My surgeon told me that it'll improve overtime but there's been no changes to the appearance of my ears. What can be done to make my ears look more natural and get rid of the folding?

It seems that your recovery after surgery is going okay but you're not happy with the results and weird folds. Otoplasty surgery typically can take 6 to 12 months to get final softening and healing.  There are several different ear operations and different things that can be done so a lot depends on specifically what kind of surgery you had and what was done to the cartilage. In general, typically the ears will not be fully pulled around like a non-operated ear after any otoplasty.If it does not settle or improve to your satisfaction, I would recommend that you see a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area that is a member of both ASPS & ASAPS and performs a lot of otoplasty surgery if you want a second opinion and of course, make sure you follow up with your own surgeon and talk about this if you have concerns that linger. I hope this helps and wish you all the best in your surgery and event. After 6 months this may or may not change particularly if the cartilages were shaved or sculpted to change the contours.  As your surgeon again about the details of the surgery and it never hurts to get second opinions.  Revisions do happen but be patient.  I have revised 4 of my own patients in some small way over the last 8 years.Chase Lay MD
