Why won't my doctor write me off to a surgeon for a breast reduction?

I'm 18 years old, 5'8", weigh 155, have a medium build, and have f cup breast. I have complained about back pain since I was 12 years old (d cup) nod she always said I was fine and that I would grow out of it but I didn't it just got worse. When I was 15 she did my physical for volleyball and when she checked my spine it was off. I was diagnosed with scoliosis later (25% to the right). When I turned 18 I said I fell down stairs from a sharp pain in my back and she still refused to do anything.

Thank you for your question.  It sounds like you are a reasonable candidate for a breast reduction.  Discuss this matter again with your parents and your primary care physician.  Another option to consider is to schedule a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon.  As long as your insurance coverage does not exclude breast reduction, the process can be initiated by a surgeon and does not need approval by your primary physician.  Primary physician support is helpful but not completely necessary.  Best wishes.

If your primary care doctor will not give you a referral to see a plastic surgeon there are a couple options to try:Call your insurance company to see if they require a referral for a specialist visit. If they do not, then you can call a plastic surgeon in your area and schedule a consultation. (Be aware, however, that some plastic surgeons may require a referral even if your insurance does not.)If you do need a referral, you can try seeing a different primary care physician or even an Ob-Gyn.If you feel like your current primary care doctor isn't listening to your concerns, it may be time to find another doctor.Best of luck to you!

Are you required to have a referral to see a plastic surgeon? If not, see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to evaluate your options. If you need a referral try to see another physician who may be more sympathetic to your situation. Good luck.
