After a transplant the first two weeks are the most critical regarding caring for your grafts. Once transplanted the new grafts do not "lock in place" (meaning new blood vessels have grown into the follicle) until about five days. So for the first five days the grafts can be dislodged easily and no heavy activity should be done. In addition it is important to keep the grafts moist at this time. We give our patients a nutrient spray to use every few hours for this purpose. It is also very important to keep the recipient site clean while the grafts are healing. We have our patients gently wash the recipient sites everyday by pouring a soapy solution on the head. Therefore in your case, I would advise to stay away from heavy lifting and working in hot, dusty areas for the first two weeks after your transplant.
We tell patients no heavy lifting for one week post-op, and you need to be careful for the first two weeks about keeping the scalp clean and dry (no sweat). In particular you need to stay away from safety helmets that could trap the open wounds into a hot, sweaty environment which could lead to a scalp infection.
Hello, Thank you for your question. It takes 1 week for grafts to settle, but I highly recommend my patients be careful for the first 2 weeks post-op. Once all the scabs are gone, and staples are off (if you had FUT) you can get back to normal life. Better not to workout r do hard work for 3 weeks. After that you are totally free to work in the dust or construction, but you should wash your head daily to avoid the dirt.
After an FUE, within a week when everything is healed, you can do whatever lifting you wish, but should protect your recipient area by wearing a hat. For a strip surgery, you should wait at least 3 weeks for the same activities
Yes, this is common to prevent the grafts from drying out and to prevent itchiness, but not a mandatory practice.
You should ask your surgeon to make it right. A meeting with your surgeon to review the results and your expectations is a prerequisite to asking for your money back. Ask first, why the results did not meet your expectations
Post op you can use baby shampoo and baby oil to help manage the itch and dandruff. After 2 weeks you could begin to use dandruff based shampoos.
