Can laser resurfacing cause long-term eye vision loss?

Lasers treatments must be performed by wearing protective eye shields in case the laser beam will shine and or affect your eye.  Your vision changes are happening due to medical conditions or age related causes. If lasers burned your eyes, there would be scars and eye doctor would be able to see scarring.

From what you describe, your decrease in visual acuity is not related to your previous laser procedure.

Thank you for your question.Laser procedure can have risks related to the eyes but in the case of resurfacing, we would expect the effects to be fairly immediate after the procedure.Eye protection is essential in laser procedures but what you describe is likely to be totally unrelated to your procedure. The fact that you have noticed the visual problems starting after the procedure is more likely coincidence but evaluation by your eye care professional certainly is reasonable.I hope your results from your resurfacing are good and that your vision stabilizes. Unfortunately, loss of near vision over time can be a part of normal eye aging.Good luck!

Thank you for your question. I assume you were wearing protective eye wear during your laser tightening procedure as this is the standard of care. Given the time course of your loss of visual acuity it would not appear to be related to your facial laser treatment. This would be a more immediate problem and would be associated with scarring on fundoscopic exam by your eye doctor. When performing laser resurfacing, the entire globe is covered with stainless steel shields to completely protect the eyes from laser.  If this is done correctly by a laser resurfacing expert, there is little or no risk to eye damage.  Your eyes could be changing due to age or for other reasons not related to your laser procedure. 

The laser should have no effect on your vision , what you are experiencing is not related to your laser treatment. Lasers can affect the vision if proper eyewear is not used and the laser beam hits the eye , which can lead to other issues not presbyopia that you are experiencing.  Lastly lasers don't usually tighten skin , radio frequency and ultrasound treatment do . If these forms of energy are used then no eye protection is needed because they do not affect vision at all.
