Hi, I don't know whether the unsightly vein in my leg is considered a varicose vein, but I'm interested in treating it with sclerotherapy. Would this be the best treatment for me?

The blue reticular or spider veins on the legs are best treated with sclerotherapy. This procedure involves injecting various medications, such as Asclera, Varithena, and glycerin, These medications damage the wall of the treated vein which then gets absorbed by your body and disappears. A very tiny needle is used so the procedure is fairly comfortable. There is no down time and you can go back to normal activity immediately. You treated leg will be wrapped with a bandage that must be kept on for 24 hours.

The veins pictured are reticular veins and sclerotherapy is the gold standard treatment. The veins are too large to be effectively treated with topical lasers and while a microphlebectomy could work, sclerotherapy is easier, less invasive and for small veins such as pictured will work just as well or better.
