Otoplasty swelling. My earlobes look disproportionate to my actual ears. What should I do?

Edema (Swelling) is normal following ear surgery especially just a few weeks post operatively from an otoplasty and can in fact temporarily distort the ear. Expect several months to see the final shape.In the mean time, head elevation, low salt diet, bromelain, and perhaps a NSAID may all aid in reducing swelling.

These observations can certainly be seen after otoplasties are performed.  Your current findings are very acute after the surgery, and may change many times during the next several months.  It is common to see the earlobes swell greatly after earlobe surgery, but on occasion similar findings can be seen after facial surgery.  You need to give this more time to properly evaluate the size and appearance as it relates to symmetry.Good luck to you.Frank Rieger M.D.  Tampa Plastic Surgeon
