What are the long term teeth-health implications of IPR done over a few teeth? As part of Invisialign, to improve smile (Photo)

I believe extractions should be out of consideration, dropping the plan if extractions are compulsory. What about IPR's implications? Is it possible that the gaps created may never be closed, hence ruining the smile/teeth? Lower jaw crowding seems worse - will IPR be needed in both the jaws, or just lower? Is there a less invasive procedure other than IPR or extractions, even if the result is less than 100%? No other issues, except that I need scaling/polishing. Also happy with the "bite".
