I got my first aligners and attachments in yesterday. I have (from what I can count) 19 attachments which seems a lot more than most other reviewers have had added it seems. I have always had horribly crooked teeth and decided to do something about it. Coming home with them on last night, I felt really disappointed. I was prepared for a lisp, and some pain or discomfort but I thought they'd be a lot less noticeable. In the last 24 hours I've had a few feelings of "do I even need these?" and "maybe I should have just left them alone/gotten metal braces/pulled all my teeth out and eaten soup for the rest of my life" type thoughts. I know eventually I will feel better about them and they will become 'normal' but right now I am not used to them. Attached are some photos. I didn't take any before I had my attachments put on but you still get the gist. Heading interstate for the next few days so that will give me a little time to get used to them before I have to return to work. One of my teeth clashes with an attachment on the bottom so I can't really chew right now. Soup and smoothies for the next few weeks I guess. That Invisalign diet! Looking forward to straighter teeth. I have faith that Invisalign will work, I've done so much research and reading so I know eventually it will be worth it. Mum keeps reminding me "no pain, no gain" and she's right but it will just take some time to get used to. I realise I must sound quite negative right now but I am really excited about the outcomes, promise! Updated on 29 Jul 2014: Just popped my second trays in, definite tightness but it's not unbearable. I am a little concerned because the top tray doesn't seem to be fitting on my molars on the right side. It's not flush against the teeth and almost feels as if it's popping off. I might call my Dr tomorrow to see what he says. The first few days weren't great but it got easier quite quickly. Ortho wax is my new all time favourite thing. I went away for a few days to Melbourne and it was such an ordeal to get my trays out those first few days that I mainly only ate in the hotel room. Lucky I've got a great partner and he didn't mind taking all our food to go. Bed soon and hoping the looseness on my molars fixes itself soon. I am strapped for time this week and don't think I will have time to head to my Dr at all. Like others have said, the teeth brushing and flossing can be arduous at times but it's not really a big deal. When I cook, I can't taste the food as I go so apologies to my family that they have been getting undercooked and over-seasoned meals the last few days. I haven't been able to eat lettuce at all which is bugging me, my teeth don't align when I bite so it is difficult to eat finer veggies like lettuce. Thank goodness for green smoothies! Updated on 26 Aug 2014: Just popped my fourth trays in my mouth. Only another 32 to go haha! They are tight yes but really not bad right now. No pain, just not as familiar as my last trays began to feel at the end of their two week cycle. Had my first appointment booked in with my doc yesterday but he was ill and couldn't make it to the office. I've got work all week so couldn't make it any other day and I am too eager to keep moving ahead so I didn't want to wait for my new trays. I headed in anyway and picked them up from his lovely, wonderful receptionist/hygienist. We've been in contact via email today so I'll see if he needs me to come in soon. I haven't had any real dramas except for - clenching when I sleep. - my midline is shifting and becoming a little more misaligned. Small issues so I'm not too worried. TwoPlusOne said she used to clench as well, anyone else have this problem? I am just trying to be really conscious of it and remind myself to stop. Attached is a picture of my teeth in their fourth trays. Really not a glamorous picture.. Looking forward to straight white teeth! Updated on 20 Sep 2014: Why do I have them and how do I stop it?? I've noticed the last few days my face (chin/cheeks) has been slightly itchy but I kind of ignored it, putting it down to it being Spring here in Australia.. But today I realised it's actually my gums that are itchy and now it's driving me crazy! Any help? Had a check up around 10 days ago now and everything is tracking nicely. Doc is happy and I am happy! Not much to report.. Molars are sensitive as they're doing the most movement at the moment. Pretty cruisy Invisalign experience this far! Not going to upload any photos because there really is no noticeable difference yet! Updated on 7 Oct 2014: 6/36 complete! Just moved into tray 7. I just did a picture comparison of day 1 compared to tonight and i can probably say I like my teeth less now than I did at the start BUT I am staying positive. I feel like I've read all your teeth have to be pushed out first before they come good. I'm telling myself that anyway :) Updated on 23 Oct 2014: Tray 8, day 3 I am currently in America! Travelling 15 hours on a plane with Invisalign is challenging! Reading "water not for consumption" in the aeroplane bathrooms AFTER you brush your teeth using that water is worrying (but I've made it through). One tooth is hurting a lot for these trays but initial pain and pressure for the rest of my mouth only lasted around 12 hours for these trays. Nothing to really report, seeing my doc again half way through tray 9. Updated on 16 Dec 2014: As it seems to happen, each tray is a bit of a non event with nothing to really report on. Just put in my tray 12, usual tightness but really not sore. I am booked in for my half yearly clean in January, which is also my next check up with my doc. I am considering purchasing acceledent because I've just gotten to that point where I am bored with always taking them in and out. Invisalign it's so annoying during the Chrissy period with all these dinners and bbqs. I'm such a whinger, lol! It is expensive and I haven't seen any available on ebay so I am really going to have to think about it financially. My wisdom teeth are impacted and one of them is starting to decay, but my doctor doesn't want to take my wisdom teeth out just yet as he is using them as an anchor to shift some of the teeth. Hoping they stay well behaved for a few months. Another reason I might have to rethink the acceledent.. Teeth are so expensive huh? I'm still not seeing any drastic results at the front but I know there is movement where the molars are, and I know I've got to totally rotate some teeth so I'm not expecting big results yet. Nothing else to say. Love Actually is on the telly right now, so it really must be almost Christmas time. Seasons Greetings my Invisalign friends, stay away from the candy canes ;) Updated on 13 Jan 2015: Hi teethy friends! I bought an Acceledent about a week ago, even though I was already 13 trays in. I've used it for the last 6 days and have just changed to tray 14 and will hopefully only have these trays in for one week. It will be a nice change to get through the trays more quickly :) I saw my doctor last week, and he is concerned that my top set of teeth will be smaller than my bottom set of teeth and I could potentially have an under-bite, this is because I had a tooth pulled on my top right when I was 19. To combat this, he suggested I pull a tooth from the front of my bottom teeth and then close the gap and I will have a smaller bottom set. I had a good think about it but really do not want one of my front bottom teeth pulled. I asked instead for some teeth shaving (can't remember what it's called, IPL maybe?) on some of my back bottom molars to ensure that the bottom stays smaller than the top. That's really it, smooth sailing otherwise. The Acceledent doesn't hurt, but I do get quite a tired achey jaw! I'm just a whinger though. I will load photos soon, although I still can't see much of a change. Updated on 15 Feb 2015: Hi pals! I have just popped tray 18 of 36 (almost half way!!) I've been using my Acceledent daily and have found changing my trays every 8 days being the optimum time for me. My top teeth should be done by tray 26, so they've so far had the most change. The bottom teeth still have a long way to go. Attached is a photo of Day 1 compared to the last day of Tray 17. :) Updated on 17 Mar 2015: Hi guys, I put in tray 21/36 last night. I love how these trays are virtually painless compared to the first 10 or so. Not sure if this is because of Acceledent or not. I recently when on a 8 night cruise and that was challenging with invisalign. So much eating and drinking! I found the most difficult aspect was actually being in my room long enough to sit there for 20 minutes with my acceledent. Because my teeth were out of the trays a little longer than normal, I gave myself an extra day in the trays just in case. I have an appointment coming up soon.. From memory I think I am booked in to get that tooth-shaving stuff (can't remember the name) and hopefully a clean. I'm really happy with my top teeth and know that the bottom still has a fair way to go. I am pretty sure I'll need refinements but that's ok! :) Love catching up on everyone's stories and hope their invisalign journey is going well! Updated on 20 Apr 2015: It's all smooth sailing. Pain (or discomfort) is so minimal these days. So happy with Invisalign!! 10 more trays to go as I just popped in tray 27/36. For some reason I had in my mind that the last 10 for my top half were all passive trays but I can feel already that this tray is trying to push a tooth forward. For those that are nearing the end or who have finished - what kind of retainer did you go with? How long were/are your refinements? This process has gone so quickly! Updated on 10 May 2015: What I feared would happen, has happened! Mid-course correction! I was so close. I am currently wearing 29/36 but I've had all my attachments taken off and I've done new scans and am now waiting for my new bunch of aligners. One of my bottom teeth was being really stubborn and wasn't fitting my aligners anymore so we are getting new ones made. Fortunately I have Acceledent so it will still run quickly but I don't know how many more aligners I will need until they arrive. Oh well! Updated on 10 May 2015: Thought I'd just throw in a photo, loving the way my teeth feel without attachments! Almost normal again :) Updated on 27 May 2015: I've just had new attachments put on to my teeth and now have another 23 trays to go! I was so close to the end of my initial treatment, that 23 seems like so many but I was prepared for something like this to happen. I loved how my teeth felt without attachments so having them back on is a bummer - especially two on one of my front top teeth! Oh well. :) I am really glad to get into new trays though! I wore my last set for near a month and they were going so gross and manky. These new ones are so clean and nice! Picked up some purple chewies as well and they smell great. After a month or so hold up in my progress, I'm really looking forward getting back on track! Had IPR done again also today to help everything move smoothly so fingers crossed these stubborn bottom canines comply this time around! :)
If you interrupt the treatment then it will not proceed as planned. Most likely you will need your teeth rescanned and treatment restarted. As this costs time and staff for you Dental provider I would expect to pay a fee to them for your change in plans. I hope this helps.
Great question but a bit confusing. If you have molar teeth they need at least partial coverage or they will over erupt. If you have no molars I’m not sure why you are asking. I hope that helps.
I think it a too early to tell. I would stick at it. Most likely a gum infection around the healing abutment. Doesn’t mean failure. In the event it is then I would suggest repeating the procedure. Like any medical procedure outcomes are not guarenteed. I hope that helps.
Hi M Oley, The bumps on the back are precision bite ramps to aid the intrusion of your lower teeth. They have been purposely design by your orthodontist. They’re different to spaces designed for attachments elsewhere. There shouldn’t be attachments on your teeth underneath. The most important part is to wear them for 22 hours a day and ideally only have 4x30 minute breaks. The design has been done and now the rest is up to you. Good luck
Hey Eli It will be fine as long as it fits correctly. There is a misapprehension that all the trays do the same thing. It is designed by the doctor and some will feel like they are doing more than others. Dr Luke PS if you don't wear them I guarantee it won't work.
