I'm a 27 year old male suffering from Androgenetic Alopecia. Possible side effects of Finasteride?

Hi Doctor. I am 27 years old male and I am suffering from androgenetic alopecia since I was 18.Recently a doctor advised me to take Genesis (finasteride) along with Novophane capsules and to spray minoxidil. I want to ask if this is right type of medication and their possible side effects especially of finasteride regarding erectile dysfunction or something like that. Thanks in anticipation.

In my opinion, finasteride is an excellent drug for treating male pattern baldness. The incidence of sexual side effects is between 2 and 4%. There is a very small number of people who have claimed to have post finasteride syndrome. This is a group of symptoms that remain after the medication has stopped. For most individuals, discontinuation of the medication is adequate. I instruct my patients to start the finasteride and stop it if they have any problems. Minoxidil, low level laser and platelet rich plasma are also very helpful. We have found in younger individuals who have recently lost hair, that platelet rich plasma decreases hair loss, increases thickness and has the potential to regrow hair. Find a hair loss expert to help you with your diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Finistrade or propecia is an excellent medication.That may help reduce or slow down hair loss. However it does have side effects. You can go to their website and find out about the side effects and use it under your doctors' supervision.

Finasateride has sexual side effects in less than 2% of men. My son is one it and has been for the past 15 years. He reversed his hair loss and had an increased sex drive with no erectile side effects. The other medications you discussed may or may not help, but they won't get at the root cause of the genetic hair loss as finasteride will.
