Hello,The short answer is 'as far away as possible'. The belly button is found in the same location on most people, roughly an 1.5 inches above the level of the hip bones, and that position shouldn't change after a tummy tuck. The incision and resultant scar should be as near to the inguinal crease (the border between the leg and abdomen) as possible along the sides, and no more than 2.5 inches from the labial cleft at the midline. This places the scar between areas of the body known as 'aesthetic units', which is the best place to minimize scar visibility, and simultaneously minimizes the size of the pubic triangle, one of the 'aesthetic units'.For reasons that are difficult to explain here, many surgeons choose to place the incision way too high on the belly. There is no good reason to do this however, and to do so frequently creates a host of aesthetic problems including a scar that is far above the bathing suit and panty line, a scar that is more visible in general, and a very large pubic triangle.Best of luck!
