I am 5 days post BBL and have not had a bowel movement. What can I do?

I appreciate your question.Since there has been a change in your post op course, please contact your surgeon so he/she can examine you and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan at this time.

Try to eat prunes and papaya . Also make sure you are taking plenty of fluids. Dehidration after BBL can cause constipationBest wishes 

Constipation after surgeries are very frequent. I recommend you to inform the office of your PS and let them  know about this situation. You should drink plenty of fluids and try to walk to stimulate bowel movements.

Great Question!!Very important to remove the post surgical breakdown products from your body.  As always contact your plastic surgeon for treatment.  High fiber with increase raw vegiatabe intake is recommended to promote movements.Over the last 20 years of practice, the current medication that relieves most of my patients is a product sold over the counter and in some stores is still dispensed from the pharmacist but does not require a perscription.The product is called Peri - Colace.  Be sure it has the word Peri on the label.  This product has a stimulant to help the bowel muscle increase their contractions when they are asleep form the narcotics used for pain control.   I usually ask patients to take it twice a day until they have a bowel movement, then once a day to maintain daily bowel movements until the narcotics are no longer needed.I wish you well in your recovery!!Dr McAdoo
