Juvéderm Voluma XC - do touch ups require less product?

Question

I have a lot of volume loss on the lefthand side of my face and some volume loss on the righthand side. I suspect I would need several vials of Voluma xc. When it needs touching up, will it take fewer vials than originally?

Yes, touch-ups and maintenance treatments often require less filler than the initial treatment, although there is no fixed amount that applies to everyone. In clinical studies of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC, the amount used for touch-up and repeat treatments was generally significantly less than the amount used initially.

When there is substantial volume loss, particularly if one side of the face has lost more volume than the other, it may take several syringes during the initial treatment to restore balance and create a natural contour. The goal is not necessarily to replace every bit of lost volume at once, but to restore proportion gradually and avoid an overfilled appearance.

Once the initial correction has been achieved, future treatments are usually more about maintaining the result rather than rebuilding all of the lost volume. Because some filler remains and the tissues have already been reshaped, a smaller amount may be sufficient for maintenance. That said, the amount needed will depend on how much filler remains, how quickly your body metabolizes it, and how much additional volume has been lost through normal aging.

For significant asymmetry, I would also expect the two sides may require different amounts of filler. Trying to use the same number of syringes on each side is not necessarily the best way to achieve facial balance.

So, if you ultimately need several syringes for the initial correction, that does not mean you will need the same number every time you return for maintenance. The initial treatment is generally the larger investment in volume, while subsequent treatments can often be more conservative and tailored to what has actually changed.
