You have what is known as a pneumothorax which is treated with a chest tube. You will have a scar where the tube exits the skin but should have no other permanent problems with your lung.

Recovery can take as long as 6 weeks. At 2 weeks the scars are just about waterproof but the deeper scarring is still stiff and immature - this is probably causing you your pain! Ultimately 3 months is the golden figure when all tissues have settled fully.
