If you have thinning hair you really need an evaluation to see if it is genetic or from another cause like stress or autoimmune. The most common cause of thinning and hair loss in men (post puberty) is genetic androgenic alopecia, otherwise known as male pattern balding.  To be sure, you should see a doctor for an examination.
