Alright, a few months ago my mom pointed out that hair on the top of my crown was thinning. I decided to take a photo of it and sure enough it was thinning. I looked online and it said that it might be male pattern baldness but I do not have a receding hairline. For the past few years I have been using mousse in my hair, can that be the reason. I have stopped using it now and I have been applying coconut oil for regrowth. What are some possible causes? Please dont just tell me to consult a dermo

If you have thinning hair you really need an evaluation to see if it is genetic or from another cause like stress or autoimmune.  If it is determined to be genetic there are many options and traditional treatments like rogaine foam and propecia pills can be used.  I have great success in my practice using injectable progesterone and prp to the scalp.  I suggest seeing a dermatologist with expertise in hair loss.  Best, Dr. Emer.

The most common cause of thinning and hair loss in men (post puberty) is genetic androgenic alopecia, otherwise known as male pattern balding.  To be sure, you should see a doctor for an examination.

A male can develop crown hair loss without changes in the frontal hairline. Certainly the most common cause of hair loss in a 16 yo male with localized crown hair loss is male pattern hair loss but there are dozens of other reasons. If all the treatments were the same it wouldn't really matter what the precise cause was. But they are not. A detailed and thorough consultation is essential.

Your biggest enemy is the progressive balding that you might have in the next 10+ or so years if you have genetic balding. See a doctor and get a diagnosis first and foremost.
