Is red splotchy skin after micro peel normal and how long to avoid sun if vacationing in May?

I recently got clear and brilliant March 12th and followed up with a hydra facial where she added on a micro peel two days ago. Immediately after my face was very red and everything she put on stung, now I have red splotchy dry patches and my skin looks worse than before procedure. I have been using vanicream face wash and lotion, will this go away? I also have a tropical vacation May 3rd, was this peel too soon /will my skin be allowed to have any sun exposure?

The red splotchy areas should improve.  Avoid using anything irritating to the skin.  Consider cleansing with a gentle cleanser while it is still red, such as Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for all skin types.  Over the counter hydrocortisone 0.5 or 1% cream can be applied to the inflamed areas. In addition, Aquaphor healing ointment can be applied to these areas and any dry patches.  Contact your provider with any questions or concerns, particularly if the problem has not improved 7-10 days from treatment.  Always protect the skin from the sun with sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and appropriate clothing, especially after any dermatologic procedure.  Any time a peel, microdermabrasion, laser, IPL (photfacial, phototherapy) is done, the thick top layer of the skin that naturally protects from the sun is gone or thinned out.  This increased the chance for burn, hyperpigmentation (darkened areas), and compromising the results of the awesome treatment you just paid for!  I do not feel you have to change your vacation plans, just be careful and take great care of your skin!
