Hello I was wondering what type of treatment with best results would be recommended for the pigmentation on my legs? I would like to be able to wear shorts again.
Answer: Resurfx laser can help even out skin tone Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Topical creams can help I am very positive you can wear shorts again! It will take time but, if you are patient, you could really see improvement. 1st, did that area of concern developed after trauma/ a fall/ burn? constant rubbing? developed with time no specific reason? Ideally, I would recommend visiting a dermatologist or cosmetic nurse but, if you cannot then you can try any of the following suggestions. If you have no open wounds, and please be very cautious with the following actives. If at any point to you develop skin sensitivity stop using these. Avoid the sun and use SPF of at least 30 or moreYou may apply a cream with Urea 2-3 times a day for 30 days. If you do not notice any improvement then, you can trya cream with hydroquinone and apply to the area at night. If you don't see improvement, you definitely have to visit your dermatologist for further evaluation.

Answer: Pigmentation Was there known trauma to this location. The expectation of resolution is really dependent upon the cause. I would recommend evaluation by a board certified dermatologist and then better recommendations could be made. Good luck.Dr. James
