Are the gummy bear implants really for life? Under the muscle?

Question

I’m getting conflicting info. Ideally I would get 295cc under muscle to turn my A cup to B. Some PS said 10-15 I should change and some say it’s for life. All offering same Gummy bear from Allergan implants. Also would you recommend tear drop shape under muscle or round? My breast are already more tear drop like (age 40). I want it to look natural. With this size will I get sagging later on? Any long term effects I should be aware about? Thanks!

You can’t say any implant is for. 10 to 15 years is only an estimate and they only need to be changed if there is a problem. Teardrop implants have many problems and you should avoid them.

Hello, there is no universally agreed-upon lifespan of implants.  It is common to exchange them periodically (for example, every 10-15 years) to decrease the risk of implant rupture, but at present this is not a requirement by the implant manufacturers or health authorities.  The decision whether to exchange implants is based on an informed discussion between the patient and their surgeon.  Selecting the shape and size of the implant should also be based on a discussion with your surgeon after a full physical examination.

The average lifetime of a saline or silicone breast implant is 10 to 20 years. If you are not having problems with the implants, there is no need to replace them. In many cases, where patients have no or little breast tissue, teardrop-shaped implants are used but they do have the disadvantage of flipping.

every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I recommend my patients to replace implant every 10 years in order to reduce complications. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.
