My doctor started me on a generic of accutane yesterday but next appointment isn't until 8/9 and I will run out of meds?

Is it okay to not take the medication for 4 days while waiting until I am able to get a refill? Or should I wait to start treatment so I won't run out of meds. The doctor also told me to eat a spoon if peanut butter before taking the medication will that really help?

You will be fine going without medication for a few days. So long as it isn't more than 10-14 days the medication will still be effective. Remember that accutane is a medication that needs a total dosing over a number of months to work. The second part of your question is EXTREMELY important. Accutane is a medication that requires fat to be absorbed. You don't need to eat a McDonalds cheeseburger with it, but some fat is of utmost importance. I routinely recommend a teaspoon of peanut butter for this purpose.

Thank you for your question. Having a few days lapse in Accutane treatment between your appointments is fine because the medication lasts in your system for days. Generic forms of Accutane should be taken with a fatty or high cholesterol meal for maximum absorption.
