Is Botox eye fatigue a real thing?

The last time I had a Botox appointment, the NP injected at the usual spots. She asked me about my mapping at my last appointment. I told her it was fine except I had frozen forehead including fatigue. After this appointment, I did not get frozen forehead but I had extreme fatigue. It felt like my forehead was pushing my eyelids closed. I no longer wish to have my forehead and "11" for now. Is it possible to still get injectables for my crows feet without causing fatigue? If I buy a certain amount of units ahead of time, do I have to use all of it or can they save my syringe? Thank you doctors!

Thank you for sharing your experience—what you’re describing is actually not uncommon, and your feelings are very valid. “Botox eye fatigue” isn’t an official medical term, but what many patients notice is that weakening the forehead or glabellar muscles can sometimes affect how the upper eyelids feel. If the forehead is too relaxed, the eyelid muscles may work harder, leading to a sensation of heaviness or fatigue, which is likely what you experienced.

The good news is that it is possible to receive Botox in areas like your crow’s feet without causing forehead or eyelid fatigue, as long as your injector carefully avoids the forehead and glabellar region and focuses solely on the lateral areas around your eyes. Experienced injectors can tailor the dosing and placement to minimize risk of affecting surrounding muscles.

Regarding purchasing units ahead of time, most offices can store unopened syringes for future use, but it’s best to confirm with your clinic about their policy. Opened syringes generally cannot be saved due to sterility concerns, but many practices can accommodate pre-purchasing without requiring immediate full use.

Your caution is smart, and it’s absolutely reasonable to focus on areas that give you the results you want while avoiding the fatigue you experienced.
