Answer: Will medicaid cover my breast reduction in Florida? I'm at the point where I can't run or jump without pain. Hi. You'll find that most plastic surgeons in private practice in Florida do not accept Medicaid for a breast reduction. You might want to explore the possibility of having your procedure performed n a universit setig. Contact the plasic surgery division at either the Univerity of South Florida in Tampa or the University of Florida in Gainesville. Good luck

Answer: Breast Reduction and Insurance approval Insurance coverage is dependent upon documentation of the medical necessity of the procedure. This typically includes musculoskeletal pain, rashes, and bra strap grooving. Patients must also demonstrate a resistance to or failure of more conservative measures including weight loss, physical therapy, and medical therapy. Finally, there will often be requirements for minimum resection. Based on your stories and photos, you would seem to be a reasonable candidate for surgery. However, documentation is the name of the game if you are seeking insurance approval. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Answer: Medicaid Medicaid in most states does cover breast reduction if you have prior approval. You will need to find a plastic surgeon who takes Florida Medicaid, and ask your primary care physician for a referral. Plastic surgery training centers are a good way to find a surgeon who does take Medicaid. Otherwise, once you are on private insurance, you should be able to find a surgeon. Good luck to you.

Answer: Will medicaid cover my breast reduction in Florida? I'm at the point where I can't run or jump without pain. Based on your description, and photographs, it sounds like you may be a good candidate for the breast reduction procedure. For the appropriately selected patient, this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. I would suggest that you do your due diligence and learn about the procedure, potential risks/complications, and the potential need for additional surgery down the line. The best way to obtain "insurance" coverage for breast reduction surgery involves some “hoops” to jump through. The more documentation you have (for example, from your primary care doctor, physical therapist, chiropractor etc.) the better when it comes to obtaining insurance “authorization” for the procedure. dure. This documentation and letter/pictures from your plastic surgeon will help you obtain authorization. Make sure you are working with a well-trained/experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. I am not sure how difficult finding such a physician ( who would be willing to work with Medicaid…) will be in the state of Florida. I hope this, and the attached link, helps. Best wishes.

Answer: Medicaid? Every insurance plan has their own unique criteria on whether they will cover a breast reduction. More and more, we are seeing plans where a breast reduction is not a covered benefit. If it is a covered benefit, some insurance plans set a minimum required amount of tissue to be remove in order to met their threshold for coverage. Some set the amount in relation to your BMI (height and weight). Others require extensive medical records documenting neck pain, back pain, and history of rashes. The other alternative is to opt for a breast reduction as a self-pay option. Start by visiting with a board certified plastic surgeon to learn more about your options.Best wishes,Dr. BasuHouston, TX
