I recieved my VGS back in 2011. Can I get resleeve?

I was curious if a bariatric surgeon would even consider doing the surgery again. I did well from 2011-2016. I'm not back to my preoperative weight but 40lbs shy of it. I was hoping the fact that I didn't receive follow ups or support to guide me along could be a factor too on top of lifestyle.

Yes, a resleeve (revision sleeve gastrectomy) is possible, but whether a bariatric surgeon would consider it depends on several factors. Some surgeons may be open to performing a resleeve if your stomach has stretched significantly and you are still struggling with weight regain despite lifestyle efforts. However, since your initial VSG was in 2011, they would likely assess the size of your stomach with an upper GI study or endoscopy to determine if enough stretching has occurred to justify a revision.
Another factor is whether you have other metabolic issues contributing to weight regain. Since you didn’t receive follow-ups or structured post-op support, a surgeon might consider that as a reason why you didn’t maintain long-term success. They may also suggest alternative options like converting to a gastric bypass (RNY) or duodenal switch (DS), which can be more effective for long-term weight loss, especially if issues like hunger or metabolic resistance are present.

Yes, I have performed this many times for patients that have regained weight after their initial sleeve, either because their sleeve has stretched out, or because it wasn't quite right the first time.  A follow up program is very important after surgery.  We actively follow up with patients for 5 years, but our relationship with them goes on well beyond that.  I still speak with patients from 20+ years ago.

If you qualify based on your weight and height (BMI over 35)...
And 
If you have tried & failed diet and exercise...
And
If you have a dilated or stretched out Sleeve as evidenced by lack of fullness after eating or seen on upper GI x-ray and or endoscopy...
Then you are a candidate for Re-Sleeve!

Hello, I hope you're well. There is a percentage of patients who regain the weight or significant weight following  bariatric surgery. You would need to be evaluated to determine your eligibilit, but revision surgery is definitely a possible option. Keep in mind you would benefit from a complete bariatric team which includes  a specialized nutricionist and psycologist.
