Ehlers Danlos and cosmetic procedures for sun damage and uneven skin tone.

Question

I was prepared for wrinkles after growing up under inescapable sun. I wasn't prepared for the oddities that come with Ehlers Danlos. I had sclerotherapy; it wasn't what I expected. But also the skin is just discoloured in its Ehlers Danlos-special way. I was considering having Fraxel Repair done to even out the skin tone/texture once the hemosiderin stains improve, but I am fearful what the outcome would be. Would it still be the best choice treating sun damage for my unique, unpredictable skin?

I dont think anyone can properly address these questions without seeing you.  I had a substantial number of ED patients in my trainer for which lasers and fillers did well.  But given the unpredictability with your wound healing, I would be very careful.  A proper cosmetic consultation would be necessary.  Best, Dr. Emer.

The answer to your question may depend upon the type/severity of your EDS.  I have treated patients with the benign hypermobile type, who had developed fish-mouth scars after excisions, with no problems at all with fillers, CoolSculpting, Botox or Pellevé. I believe that procedures with minor superficial trauma are not a problem.I hope this is helpful to you.  Dr. Clark
