Hypotropic Scarring at 7 Month Post Op? (photo)

Question

i am 7 months post op BR....recently i noticed that my scars have taken a turn for the worse. I went to see my PS to discuss my concerns, he gave me injections and told me to get the sillicon sheeting immediately which i started today. My question is why did my scars all the sudden turn hypotropic after all this time? and will the sillcon sheeting help even tho I am 7 months post op? My PS only told me to use cocoa butter, he did not originally stress the sheets..and btw i am not a smoker

Even at seven months out there is quite a bit of biologic activity in your incisions. The outcome could still be favorable without revision. Pressure, steroid injections, and possibly other modalities may have a role but should be used judiciously.

Hypertrophic scars are generally due to excessive tension. This tension is needed when performing a breast lift or breast reduction. There are many treatment options available including steroid injections and silicone gel sheeting. As long as the scars are still pink they are still healing and can still be positively effected.

Genetically, anatomic location wise you are a hypertrophic scarer. Thus allow the normal course of healing with the use of any scar regime to help improve.

I agree with your surgeon's approach to your scars.  I would treat them similarly and would expect at least some improvement.
